U.S. Vector Data UW Restricted
Here you will find various vector datasets for the U.S. (e.g. states, counties, zip codes, census tracts, highways, etc.) in shapefile format. These files are sourced from the ESRI Data and Maps CD/DVD set, and are therefore restricted to UW students, staff, and faculty.

Berkeley/Penn Urban & Environmental Modeler's Datakit
A series of viewable and downloadable ESRI shapefiles and grids describing many of the physical, administrative, transportation, demographic, economic, land use and land cover, and environmental characteristics of the 48 contiguous United States.

Search this federal metadata repository if you don't know where to begin your data search. The goal for this portal is become the Geospatial OneStop, the primary resource for geospatial data discovery, whether working at national, state, or local scales. Physical, environmental, social and cultural data with a geographical aspect are included. You can browse through categories of datasets, search for datasets via a search engine, or use an interactive map to identify your area of interest.

TheDataWeb is a network of online data libraries that the DataFerrett application accesses the data through. Data topics include, census data, economic data, health data, income and unemployment data, population data, labor data, cancer data, crime and transportation data, family dynamics, vital statistics data, etc. Find data to use and contribute data you have created.

Geological Survey (USGS)

USGS Seamless Data Distribution System
Provides Digital Orthophotography, National Elevation Dataset (NED), Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM), National Landcover Dataset, Landsat Mosaic Orthoimagery, MODIS/Terra Vegetation Indices, and access to the National Atlas. A map interface allows you to identify and download any of these datasets for your area of interest.

 

The National Map
USGS provides this online, interactive search and retrieval system for a wide variety of vector and raster data. Themes include administrative boundaries, geographic names, geology, hydrology, imagery, land use/cover, natural hazards, structures, topographic maps, and transporation.. At this time most data is at a national scale, although the ultimate goal is to integrate access to all scales of data through partnerships with state and local governments.

 

Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS)
Aerial photography and digitial orthophotography; Maps, Elevation data (NED, DEMs, GTOPO30, etc); Satellite imagery (ASTER, SRTM, SIR-C, NALC, etc.); Land Cover (NLCD, LULC, GLCC, etc); Historical data includes DRG’s, HYDRO1K, aerial photography, declassified satellite imagery and more.

Coastal and Marine Geology Program Internet Map Server

Provides usSEABED data on ocean floor geology and geophysics for the Atlantic, Pacific, and Gulf Coasts. Alaska and Hawaii datasets are forthcoming.
